This morning I could run the on ramp readiness tool, but for the last 2 hours I can't. going to setup -> Advanced Setup takes me to https://onramp.office365.com/onramp/ where I get a 503 error Service unavailable. Without this I can't continue to configure my domain for AD sync. Arrgghh!

Outlook popup for credentials whenever password changed

We are running Windows 2003 domain and ADFS. We have migrated our mailboxes to Office 365. The problem we have is whenever a user changes his/her password, the Outlook popup for the credentials. Since DirSync runs every 3 hours, we need to run it to sync the password manually. Does someone have a better solution?

Active directory sharepoint sync

Hi There,

We have set up Active Directory, and already have a medium sized business office 365 account that we are already using.

My problem is, we have used Dirsync to eventually sync all users of sharepoint across to AD and the same vice versa.

I created a user yesterday and pushed the sync to SharePoint, but the user is not able to log into sharepoint using the details I supplied in AD.

Also I created a user in share point then created the same user in AD and this user cannot log in or be found in the share with option on a site.

Both users are in active users on SharePoint and also both state that they are "synced with Active directory"

Where have I gone wrong??

Any help would be appreciated.

The admin account that was setup when our portal was created is missing.  How do I create another admin account?  Admin account was used to do active directory sync and now dirsync will not work.

DirSync failing in Parent and Child domains

$

Hi there,

I'm seeing some odd issues with DirSync and Migrations so I'm wondering if the 2 are related. We have a parent domain, for example, domain.com, then we have 3 child domains, say a.domain.com, b.domain.com & c.domain.com.

When I run start-onlinecoexistencesync as my account (member of Enterprise Admins and Domain Admins of the parent & child domains) then DirSync runs as expected. However, when it runs automatically with the MSOL_dd000000000 account then I get failures on all domains with the following message:

Error 8344 Insufficient access rights to perform the operation

I'm also seeing the following error when trying to set up the migration endpoint:

We couldn't detect your server settings. Please enter them. The ExchangeRemote endpoint settings could not be determined from the autodiscover response. No MRSProxy was found running at mail.domain.com

I'm wondering if this is because of the DirSync error (I was reading that write back errors can cause unexpected problems with Exchange Online). I We are running an F5 that had SSL offloading turned on, but we've disabled this and allowed traffic for the MRS through to the Exchange servers, so I'm not sure if something is not quite right with the F5, or if it is related to the DirSync errors.

Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks

SSO Implementation After-the-Fact

Question: I manage an organization with approximately 200 email users. We have an Exchange 2010 std server. We also have an Office 365 E3 subscription. Currently, no mailboxes are in O365 and O365 is not being used for email. However, most users are already active on Office 365 using Sharepoint. Soon, we will begin migrating mailboxes to O365 and want to set up SSO. Here's the dilemma: The local domain has one set of credentials for each user, O365 has an entirely different set. All users on Exchange 2010 (and in AD) use this username: organization.local\flast (first initial, last name). All users on O365 use this username: first.last@organization.com. In all my searching, I can't find a post that addresses this problem exactly. The goal: All users may log in to O365 using first.last@organization.com, while maintaining the ability to log in locally as organization.local\flast, with the same password. Is this possible? Are there an resources that I can read that address this specific issue? Thanks!

Office365 alias addition with AD sync

Good morning,

I am trying to add an email alias for a user whose email address was created via his AD account.

However, he would like an additional alias.

I have followed the directions here:

  1. Go to Start > Run and type adsiedit.msc
  2. Now, find the unit where your AD user’s reside
  3. Right click the user you want to edit and click Properties.
  4. Find the variable proxyAddresses– this is the one you want to edit.
When you add new e-mail aliases, you want to make sure that your primary e-mail address will start with upper-case SMTP. Your aliases, aka, secondary addresses should be lower-case smtp. For example, I want my primary e-mail address to be firstnamelastname@example.com
In the proxyAddresses attribute, I would put:
    SMTP:firstnamelastname@example.com
As my alias, I want firstname.lastname@example.com … to do this, I will use lower case smtp:
    smtp:firstname.lastname@example.com

However, it is not populating in Office365.  Can someone please offer me assistance on how this can be done?

Thanks in advance!

EOP and Dirsync

Hello,

We are currently just EOP customers that moved over from FOPE.  I am going to be evaluating office 365, but wanted to get Dirsync setup and working before I signed up for a trial on my production 365/EOP environment.

I have quite a few users that were migrated from fope.  They are users setup via their email address  user.name@domain.com.  I'm not sure how dirsync will work with these users.  I tried to do a small sync with the container that my user is in, and it didn't seem to update the user in EOP/365 at all.  All of my AD users are based on a userid@domain.com  and their email addresses are user.name@domain.com.  I understand I want to migrate so their upn is user.name@domain.com at some point, but wanted to get 365 going before I do that.

Should I expect the users in AD to sync with the users in 365 that migrated from fope?  Will they sync based on email address?  How do I make them do that?  Do I need to delete all the migrated users before I setup dirsync?

Is there an easy way to see what dirsync did from the 365/eop console?

problems after office 365 migration

Hi,

I did 3 migrations to different clients, from exchange 2010 to office 365,

and in all 3 cases, even after i disconnected the exchange 2010 server, i still have issues configuring outlook and signing in to Lync,

to configure outlook and sign in to lync, i need to do one of the following, either connect to a different network or change the DNS on the machine itself.

i guess that its because of the AD, coz when i mentioned connecting to a diff network will fix it, it mean its not connected to the AD anymore, and when i change the DNS on the PC itself, i am removing the IP of the AD from the DNS and putting something else...

can you please help me to fix that issue

thank you

Hello Everyone

I have few domains setup which are federated into my O365 tenant, and there is a need to setup the -logoffuri for these few of the domains to empty.. I tried to replace the existing value by using $null etc.. but the current value stays as it is.

could some one please let me know how would I clear the -logoffuri value to empty or no information, below is the commandlet which I'm using.

Note: This is while modifying the SSO information from Azure power shell.

Office 365 - DirSync & hybrid queries

Hi,

I would be glad I I can get answers to these:

My org has following infra:

  • Forest abc.contoso.com having tree domain xyz.contoso - Windows 2008 R2 SP1 based Global Catalog Servers
  • Forest functional level: Windows Server 2003. Domain functional level for both domains abc.contoso.com & xyz.contoso.com is Windows Server 2008 R2
  • abc.contoso.com is an empty root domain & xyz.contoso.com holds all resources including all servers, computers & user accounts.
  • Exchange 2007 SP3 on-prem with 5 sites. All ingress/egress from Site A only from proofpoint through sendmail servers in Site A.
  • upn suffixes:
    • @xyz.contoso.com (set as default)
    • @abc.contoso.com
    • @contoso.com

Queries:

  1. I need to configure dirsync. For this, is registering contoso.com domain is sufficient?
  2. As contoso.com is a upn suffix still for all users, is it mandatory to set it as a default upn? Any issues doing that?
  3. Should DirSync server be in Site A compulsorily? Is setting up DirSync in azure the only way to achieve HA for DirSync?
  4. Should dirsync be installed in abc or xyz domain in our scenario?
  5. Having unnecessary proxy addresses along with required email addresses on all our users since ages, like user@example1, user@example2 - that means without complete smtp namespace impact dirsync? We dont care if such proxy addresses are dropped but will everything work?
  6. How many hybrid servers are required for email coexistence? What is the guidance? Is windows NLB recommended or a hardware one?
  7. Does MS recommend hybrid servers be 2010 or 2013? Which is a complicated scenario & whichone is beneficial one?
  8. Does bringing edge in hybrid considers it as a hybrid edge? Our scenario does not have an edge already. So, in this case, is bringing edge a good one? Can we convince the customer that even without edge, you've got a very secure infra, nothing exposed...
  9. Should hybrid be installed in abc or xyz domain in our scenario?
  10. Which domain must be federated with office 365 using adfs or any third party like Okta? Is it abc or xyz in our scenario?

Rgds,

Harish

Severe mix up between onmicrosoft.com address and own domain addresses

We have been using Office 365 at my company (3 of us) for about 6 months.

When we created the account we set up some temporary addresses in the

"name@visionarymarketing.onmicrosoft.com" format ... then we bough Office online and our trouble started

> "name@visionarymarketing.onmicrosoft.com" were turned into name@visionarymarketing.com so far so good

HOWEVER

> "name@visionarymarketing.onmicrosoft.com" do not redirect to name@visionarymarketing.com

> mentions of @name@visionarymarketing.com in the discussion threads are leading nowhere (messages are lost and no warnings are issued)

We want rid of "name@visionarymarketing.onmicrosoft.com" entirely and we want these old addresses to redirect to the new ones.

at all times.

If Microsoft could help us we'd be grateful, this issue has been a pain in the neck for a while now.

Hi

If I create users online and later imports them to the Essentials environment via the wizard in Essentials, the Display name is not the same display name as in the cloud (the display name is suddently the account name)

Anyone else experienced that? and anyone with an answer (to me it seems like a bug..)

Thanks

AD domain name different from O365 domain name. Is this possible?

My company changed it's name some time ago, and we are in the proccess of changing all our systems to the new name. We are already using the new domain to our email addresses, but our AD is still using the old name. We want to use ADFS to sync our AD accounts to O365, but we don't want our users to authenticate using the old domain name.

I will try to better explain this:

Our AD domain is @oldname.com

Our EMAIL domain is @newname.com

Users have their AD account like user@oldname.com

Users have their email addresses like user@newname.com

We want to sync our AD users to O365 using ADFS, but we want the user to type their @newname.com email to sign in, instead of the AD @oldname.com address.

Is this possible?

office pro plus unlicensed

Hi,

I manage a remote site connected to head office by VPN tunnel although we are all part of same windows domain. Our office pro plus licenses keep coming back as unlicensed and the only way we can get them to work again is by disconnecting the computer from the network that domain is on and connecting to our guest internet and then running the command C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\OFFICE14\osaui.exe /k We get error 800C0008 when connected to the domain network.
The adfs server is at head office and over there they can validate their licenses while connected to the domain. I did not set up the adfs server or have access to it so I am looking for some suggestions as to what might be wrong that I can suggest to my server support colleagues.

Thanks
Lorne

Converting Federated users to Managed

Hi, We are a company that uses ADFS/SSO and have just upgraded dirsync to include password sync.  I would like to test the password sync feature on a few of our IT people before a wider rollout and converting our domains to managed.  Do you know if this is possible.  I have read many posts on this and some indicate that as the users were added to AAD using dirsync that we can't convert a small subset of users to managed without first converting the domain to managed.  Any help and advice would be appreciated.  Thanks - Pete

Stopping some AD accounts from synchronizing.

Hi,

Is there a way to tag Active Directory accounts so that they will NOT synchronize with Office 365 when using Active Directory Sync?  I have hundreds of generic student logins that I do not want in Office 365 because of all the clutter.  Is there a way to stop them from coming back if I delete them in Office 365.

Thanks

windows azure active directory credentials error

When running the configuration wizard I am unable to get the credentials to work.  I have used both the user I created and my domain admin account.  I have confirmed that DNS is correct.  nltest /dsgetdc:<fqdn>  outputs correctly as does nltest /dsgetsite.  I have removed the server from the domain and rejoined successfully.  The firewall is turned off.  I have confirmed the credentials work by logging into other servers.  The user is a member of the enterprise admins group. The credentials are given in the username@fqdn.local  At this point any suggestions would be helpful.  Thanks.

Activate Synced Users not working with Multiple Users selected.

I cannot get the "Activivate Synced Users" link to work if I select more than one user.  I've done this before with no problem.  It works fine with a single user.  I thought it might be the IE version, or the computer, so I've tried 4 different computers and 3 versions of IE, 9, 10, and 11.  I even tried FireFox for kicks.  If I select all of the users on the page, or just 2, and click the link, nothing happens.  It just sits there.  I've got about 300 student accounts to activate right now, and possibly another 650 in a few days.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
